The marine works contract for El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project with the Russian side, which was awarded to the Arab Contractors Company, at a value of $ 418 million. El Dabaa NPP project is one of Egypt’s national projects in the field of energy, which is being implemented by the Egyptian state, represented by the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, under the supervision of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, to enhance Egypt’s position in the field of nuclear energy.
The project includes the construction of two breakwaters with a total length of 3 km, and a sedimentation basin with an area of a million m2, in addition to marine life protection facilities. The most prominent component of this project is a giant breakwater with a length up to 1650 m, a height of 10.20 m approximately , and a depth of 21 m approx., which represents the largest breakwater of its kind in the region, to provide comprehensive protection for the nuclear facility.
The project was designed according to the highest standards of quality and environmental safety, as the latest technologies will be used in construction, including Four-legged and six-legged concrete block. Environmentally friendly materials will also be used and the latest technologies will be applied to protect marine life.
The project witnesses the use of huge quantities of materials and infrastructure, including about 600000 m3 of concrete, 2.5 million m3 of rocks, and 950 tons of reinforcing steel, in addition to dredging works amounting to 2.55 million m3. In addition to the installation of about 15000 linear meters of pipes with a diameter of 1 meter inside the sea.
