It is one of the major mosques in downtown Cairo, and it is one of the most important landmarks of Ramses Square. The mosque was established by the Arab conquerors of Egypt and was rebuilt during the reign of Al-Hakim, by the command of God, and it was demolished by the French after the first Cairo revolution 1798. The Arab Contractors Company took over the rebuilding of the mosque, and it was opened in its current form on the anniversary of the Isra and Mi’raj in 1990. Its minaret is one of the highest minarets in the Islamic world, with a height of 130 meters from the surface of the earth.
