Water & Wastewater   ::  Completed Projects   ::  2019  ::

The Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Antiquities, the owner of the project, with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is implementing a project to reduce the groundwater level in the Kom Ombo temple and through the Sustainable Tourism Investment Program in Egypt (SITE).

Consultation Office: (CDM Smith) in cooperation with the advisory office (AAW)
Executing Contractor: The Arab Contractors Company - Marine Construction Department
Start Date: 08/30/2017
Execution Time: 365 days
Contract Value: 97 million pounds

The project aims to implement a permanent water level reduction system in the archaeological area of ??the Kom Ombo temple in order to preserve the historical monuments and protect them from groundwater damage, by using a safe withdrawal system for groundwater through the TRENCH DRAIN used to collect water around the temple and direct it on its path to stations The system’s lift so that the pumps pump it inside the drain lines to the downstream point on the Draw drain. With the implementation of a monitoring system to follow the change in water levels around the temple, water withdrawal operations, and control of the amount of pumped water, in order to reach the safe level of groundwater (80.70 m.ASL).

The project consists of 8 basic elements for the formation of a safe pumping system for groundwater, control and follow-up in the operation of the system to preserve antiquities and control the level of groundwater:
1- Perforated slope lines with a length of 1022 m.
2- Deep pumping well.
3- Protection trenches from the capillary property around the temple.
4- 3 pumping stations for water.
5- Water pumping lines from the pumping stations to the downstream.
6- Implementation of the downstream.
7- A control building for operation and follow-up works.
8- 3 water level monitoring wells.
