In a precedent that is the first of its kind in Egypt, the Arab Contractors Company succeeded in the inauguration and landing of Queen Abu Simbel floating hotel, an affiliate of Queen Abu Simbel Nile Tourism Company, which is one of the largest floating hotels operating in Lake Nasser behind the High Dam, using airbags. The employees of Massara Shipyard and the Aswan Shipyard, affiliates of the Arab Contractors Company, in cooperation with Ezz Steel Company, were able to successfully complete the landing.
The floating hotel, weighing 3,000 tons, 109 meters long, 15.50 meters wide, and 15.50 meters high (four floors), has been launched. This achievement is considered a new engineering solution being implemented to solve the problem of the impossibility of landing floating hotels and large river units at Lake Nasser in a dry area to carry out periodic maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation work for the units located behind the High Dam. The project was studied and implemented in cooperation and under the supervision of a group of consulting offices in various specializations (marine, construction, and mechanical works) in addition to a company specializing in heavy lift works using airbags.
This achievement is considered a new addition to providing maintenance services for river units within the scope of its work, which saves time and costs, supports the tourism industry, and provides safety through periodic inspection of these floating vessels.
