Signing of electromechanical work contract for High-Speed Rail Lines 2 & 3

Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel Al Wazir - Minister of Transport and Dr. Roland Busch -CEO of Siemens International, announcing launching the implementation of electromechanical systems for High-Speed Rail lines 2 & 3 network between the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) and the JV of Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction and the Arab Contractors Company for the contract of (6th of October City/ Aswan) and (Hurghada / Safaga/ Qena/Luxor) High-Speed Rail project, which was signed by Dr. Major Gen. Tarek Gowaili - Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), Mr. Michael Peter - CEO of Siemens Mobility, Eng. Osama Bishai - CEO of Orascom Construction, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, and leaders of the National Authority for tunnels and the Ministry of Transport. The Minister of Transport also witnessed the signing of a contract for the design, supply and implementation of electromechanical work for the stations of High-Speed Rail Network, the line of (Ain Sokhna - El Alamein) with the JV of (Orascom Construction – The Arab Contractors - Elsewedy Electric). The memorandum was signed by the National Authority for Tunnels, Dr. Major Gen. Tarek Gowaili - Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), and from Orascom Construction Eng. Osama Bishai - CEO of Orascom Construction, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, and Engineer Ahmed Elsewedy - Chairman of Elsewedy Electric. On the sidelines of the signing, Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel Al Wazir thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi - President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, for his sponsorship of the conference and his constant support for the field of localization of the transportation industry in Egypt, adding that we are carrying out infrastructure works for the two projects, including bridges, tracks, stations, and industrial works (bridges - tunnels) and the supply of basalt and flanges. He also thanked Dr. Roland Busch -CEO of Siemens International, for his cooperation in accomplishing this agreement and in removing all obstacles to the two projects. He thanked him once again for his great role in implementing this huge project and thanked the members of the JV with Siemens, namely the Arab Contractors and Orascom, for their cooperation in the development of the transport sector in Egypt, adding that all work is supervised by an international consultant, Systra, so that this project is the largest project implemented in the Middle East in cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and Siemens International. The Minister of Transport confirmed that this signing comes within the framework of the political leadership’s directives to expand the establishment of a clean, environmentally friendly, green transport network and the establishment of High-Speed Rail network consisting of 3 main lines with a total length of about 2000 km, which will represent a huge qualitative leap in means of transportation in Egypt and will cover all parts of the republic as well. Besides, it will be development arteries serving new and existing urban and industrial areas that contribute to reducing and shortening the travel time between governorates to more than half the time that the citizen currently takes, whether through the existing train network or through the current roads linking the governorates. Dr. Roland Busch -CEO of Siemens International, expressed his great happiness with the strategic cooperation between Siemens and the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, represented by the High-Speed Rail network project, stressing that this agreement is evidence of the strong partnership between the two sides to implement giant projects that serve the Egyptian people and embodies the spirit of friendship and close cooperation between Egypt and Germany.
