Dr. Assem El Gazzar - the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities visited El Nahda Tunnel Project in Nahdet Misr Square in the intersection of El Gamaa Bridge with Mourad Street in Giza. This was in the presence of Eng. Khaled Abbass – the Deputy Minister of Housing for National Projects, Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar – Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Eng. Sayed Farouk – AC Senior Vice President and officials from the Ministry of Housing. Dr. El Gazzar said the project is two directions tunnel for vehicles with a total length of 1,700m and a width of 7m for each direction, 2 lanes in Mourad Street. It is equipped with the latest methods for safety, traffic monitoring and storm water and flood drainage. The project is divided as follows: a tunnel with a length of 550m from Giza to El Galaa Bridge, a 850m tunnel from El Galaa Square to Giza; an outlet from El Galaa to Cairo University with a length of 300m. The Minister declared that the project represents the First phase of the development plan for Cairo University's surrounding area (Saft 2) to decrease the traffic pressure and the waiting rows in the university surrounding area and maximize utilization from Saft El Labn Axis as a vital one in Giza and its eastern expansion till Cairo Governorate. The project is aiming at facilitating the traffic in El Nahda Square and Giza Entrance at the intersection of El Gamaa Bridge with Mourad Street because it is considered the most important and crowded area in Giza. Besides, the tunnel will directly link El Gamaa Bridge with El Gamaa surrounding area without surface intersections. In addition to these, the project has a positive environmental impact by decreasing the pollution and noise. It is a noteworthy that Dr. Moustafa Madbouli – the Prime Minister partially inaugurated the project on 14 July 2018, as it was temporarily operated for the direction from El Galaa Bridge to Giza.
