Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and his companions inspected purification and deepening of Al Burullus Lake and Boghaz project to follow up on the work progress, in addition to the targeted work to complete the efforts to purify, deepen and develop the lake’s water surface, during his tour to inspect a number of service and development projects in Kafr El Sheikh.
The visit was attended on behalf of the Arab Contractors Company, which is carrying out the works, by Eng. Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company , Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Senior Vice Chairman, and Eng. Mohamed Lashin - Head of Delta and Marine Structures Sector and AC Executive Board Member, and Eng. Shehab AlZahed, Manager of the Marine Structures Department.
During the tour, the Prime Minister listened to a detailed explanation from Eng. Randa Al Manshawy - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, about the implementation status that that purification and deepening of Al Burullus lake and boghaz is being implemented through the Central Agency for Reconstruction affiliated with the Ministry, represented by the Central North Coast Reconstruction Authority, and the Arab Contractors Company is undertaking the implementation of the project works, and the implementation rate has reached about 99%.
The Minister of Housing explained that the project aims to raise the efficiency of the aquatic environment of Al Burullus lake and create suitable conditions for the growth and reproduction of various types of fish, whether saltwater or freshwater fish, through the development of the boghaz and radial canals, and improving the rates of movement and flow of water within the lake, which supports the development of fish stocks and increases the areas available for free fishing, providing new job opportunities for the people of the surrounding areas, preserving the water surface of the lake, enhancing security and protection work and preventing encroachments on its shores.
Eng. Randa Al Manshawy explained scope of work works which including the purification and deepening of the boghaz and radial channels, removing reeds, dredging works inside the lake and on its shores, cleaning the Barmbal Canal coming from Rashid branch, and the areas located in front of the drain outlets, in addition to cleaning the environmental spaces between the islands “gates”, which contributes to improving the movement of water and its renewal inside the lake.
The project components include the construction of docks for boats belonging to the Waterways Police and Border Guard Corps, the construction of 8 docks for fishermen inside the lake, which provides the necessary infrastructure to support security operations and services related to fishing activity.
Regarding the dredging works, the Minister of Housing indicated that the first phase is being carried out on an area of 1,808 feddan, with a total dredging quantity estimated at about 6 million m3, while the second phase includes an area of 1,500 feddan, with a total dredging quantity of about 9.4 million m3, while the third phase extends over an area of 3,746 feddan, and the targeted dredging quantity 21.5 million m3 approximately.
Major General Hani Al Iskandarani - Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction explained that the implementation of the lake development works has been divided into 3 main phases, which aim to raise the efficiency of the water surface, restore appropriate depths, and improve water movement and communication between the various components of the lake to support its environmental and economic functions and preserve its natural resources.
Major General Essam El Gharably - Head of the Central North Coast Development Authority explained that the work implemented within the project aims to achieve integration between dredging, purification work and the development of waterways and entrances to improve the efficiency of water movement and renewal within the lake. He explained that the work is not limited to removing and dealing with sediments but extends to opening and deepening waterways, restoring design depths, and raising the efficiency of water communication between the various parts of the lake to improving the aquatic environment and creating suitable conditions for the development of fish resources.
Engineer Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company reviewed the implementation status, dredging and purification works in Al Burullus Lake and Boghaz Development Project implemented by the company, in accordance with the approved technical specifications and environmental requirements, explaining that the teamwork continuing to implement the remaining works in the project in coordination with the Central North Coast Development Authority and the concerned authorities.
