Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly continued his extensive tour of several service and development projects in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate by inspecting Balteem Wastewater Treatment Plant and the villages whose sewage will be connected to it, under the supervision of the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage to follow up on the work progress and the targeted villages in Balteem.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Eng. Randa El Menshawy - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Mr. Hassan Radad - Minister of Labor, Eng. Ibrahim Mekki - Governor of Kafr El Sheikh, Major General Amin Shawky - Head of the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, and a number of executive leaders in the governorate.
The visit was attended on behalf of the Arab Contractors Company, which is carrying out the works, by Eng. Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Board, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Senior Vice Chairman, Eng. Mohamed Lashin - Head of Delta and Marine Construction Sector and AC Executive Board Member, and Eng. Mohamed Helmy - Manager of North Delta Branch.
Dr. Moustafa Madbouly stressed that the state gives priority to drinking water and sanitation projects in its development plans, due to their direct link to the quality of life of citizens, public health and environment preservation, stressing the importance of completing the various components of the system, from pumping stations, gravity networks and force mains to ensure the maximum benefit from the capacities established by the state and the entry of the projects into actual service.
During the tour, Eng. Randa El Menshawy – Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities reviewed the general status of the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage projects at the level of Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, explaining that the total number of projects included in the Authority’s plan in the governorate amounts to 127 projects, with a total estimated cost LE 6.81 billion approximately.
Eng. Randa El Menshawy - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities explained that the number of projects included in the achievements of the drinking water and sanitation sectors in the governorate during the period from 2014 to 2026 amounts to 84 projects; including 23 drinking water projects with a total cost of 1.25 billion pounds, and 61 sanitation projects with a total cost of 2.32 billion pounds.
Dr. Mustafa Madbouly and his companions then moved to see the components of the treatment plant, where he listened to an explanation about the plant presented by Major General Amin Shawky - Head of the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, who pointed out that its capacity is 22,000 m³/day (first phase), and increased to 33,000 m³/day (second phase), while the system associated with it includes 10 pumping stations, gravity networks with a length of 79.6 km, and force mains with a length of 28.9 km, and it serves approximately 350,000 citizens.
Major General Amin Shawky explained that the estimated cost of the treatment plant is LE 520 million, and the project aims to supply Baltim and a number of surrounding villages with sanitation services, including: Al Hammad, Al Zahraa Al Sharqiya, Al Zahraa Al Gharbiya, Al Ayyash Al Sharqi, Al Ayyash Al Gharbi, Omira Al Sharqiya, Al Shahabiya, and Sheikh Mubarak.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and his companions reported about the main components of the treatment plant, which include: aeration basins, final sedimentation basins, sludge thickening and drying basins, dried sludge storage, air blower, chlorine, laboratory, generator and transformer buildings, and the calming room at the entrance, in addition to the filtration basins and areas designated for future expansion.
