Madbouly: The Egyptian JV implementing the project is making a distinguished effort, and Egypt is ready to implement any development projects in sister African countries. Minister of Housing: Contracting with a specialized company to produce a documentary film that highlights the JV achievements in this massive development project. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly- Prime Minister, followed up on the implementation status of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam in Tanzania, which is being implemented by the Egyptian JV (the Arab Contractors - Elsewedy Electric), during a meeting held today, in the presence of Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Major General Mahmoud Nassar - Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Eng. Ahmed El Assar –CEO & Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy - CEO of Elsewedy Electric, and Eng. Heba Abul Ella - Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company. The Prime Minister emphasized that this meeting comes within the framework of monitoring the implementation of this massive development project, which has received the attention of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his constant directives to push the work progress and implement the project various components and phases at the highest level. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly pointed out that this project is of great importance as it embodies the capabilities and potential of Egyptian national companies, with their professional staff, to implement such major projects at the international level, particularly in Africa. This will enhance the Egyptian state's efforts to support development efforts in African countries. He emphasized that the Egyptian JV implementing the project is making a distinguished effort, and that Egypt is ready to participate in the implementation of any development projects in sister African countries. The Prime Minister stated that, in light of the directives of President El Sisi, an Egyptian government committee has been formed to follow up on the implementation of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam Project in Tanzania. He noted that this committee has a clear impact in advancing work and commitment with the Tanzanian government. He added that the continuous follow-up by the Cabinet and the Ministry of Housing, in implementation of the directives of President El Sisi, has expressed the Egyptian state's support for this Tanzanian dream, which we are honored to implement together. The Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities presented the latest developments in the implementation status of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam project in Tanzania, covering the project's various components and phases, as well as the results of periodic follow-up reports on the work being carried out, which includes the construction of a main concrete dam and subsidiary dams, in addition to an electrical connection station and several other components supporting electricity generation and protection against flood risks. The minister added that a specialized company has been contracted to produce a documentary film on Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam project, highlighting JV's achievements in this massive development project. The Housing Minister noted that there is coordination with the Tanzanian side regarding cooperation with the JV on a number of other projects. He met a few days ago with the Tanzanian Ambassador to Cairo to discuss opportunities for cooperation on these projects, particularly since the JV companies have studied them and submitted comprehensive feasibility studies. In turn, the Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company presented a number of indicators for the implementation of the project, in its various components, which include a main concrete dam with a length of 1036 m at the top and 7 water outlets, 4 saddle dams for reservoir impounding of water with a capacity of approximately 32.7 billion m3, 2 temporary dams in front of and behind the main dam for drying works and diverting the river’s course during the construction of the main dam, an electricity connection station, and other facilities including the construction of a residential complex, crushers and mixers, a water spillway in the middle of the main dam and an emergency spillway on subsidiary dam No. 1, temporary and permanent roads to serve the project area, as well as a 703-meter-long tunnel to divert river water and 3 tunnels with a total length of 1550 meters to pass the water needed for the power station, a permanent concrete bridge and a temporary bridge over Rufiji River, noting that the project is currently being prepared for the official inauguration. For his part, Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy thanked the Egyptian government for its continuous follow-up of the project’s implementation, stressing full cooperation with the Tanzanian side, whether in implementing this project or other projects. He pointed out in this regard that Elsewedy Electric Company has implemented 6 factories in Tanzania that are currently producing and exporting to neighboring countries. He also pointed out that the coming period will witness significant cooperation with the Tanzanian government, as a number of Egyptian investors are scheduled to head to Tanzania to discuss a group of investment opportunities there.
