During his visit to the site, Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny – the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, met with officials and workers from the Tanzanian and Egyptian sides of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam in Tanzania, which is being implemented by the Egyptian JV (Arab Contractors - Elsewedy Electric), that has become a landmark for cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania. The Minister said: I am happy to be among you today, and there has been great progress since the last visit, noting that there is a directive from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to complete the project on time in preparation for the opening. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny expressed his sincere thanks to the workers and officials of Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant, both Egyptians and Tanzanian brothers, for the exerted effort, expressing his pride in the project’s accomplishments, and this work confirms the ability of Egyptian companies to implement major projects that achieve the required development. The project is considered a prominent sign of solidarity and cooperation between Egypt and its brothers in Africa. The Minister of Housing said: “with the determination of the officials and workers in the project, this achievement that we see now has been accomplished with your hands, which fulfills the aspirations of our Tanzanian brothers to obtain stable energy and achieve the desired goals in all sectors of this dam, especially the agriculture and energy sectors.” Major General Mahmoud Nassar said: What has been achieved is not an accomplishment, but rather a miracle carried out by the JV implementing the project. There are reports being sent to all state agencies regarding the status of the project’s follow-up, wishing success to all those working on the project. During the meeting, one of the project engineers gave a brief overview of the project’s status from the beginning until now. The Minister of Housing was accompanied by Major General Mahmoud Nassar - Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Eng. Elham El Sergany - Assistant Supervisor of the Minister’s Office, Eng. Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Wael Hamdy – Eng. Wael Hamdy – Senior Vice Chairman of Elsewedy Electric, and Eng. Ahmed El Adalany – Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company. It is worth noting that the project aims to generate electricity with a capacity of 2115 MW, and the generated energy will be transmitted via 400 kV transmission lines, and the generated electricity will be integrated with the public electricity grid of Tanzania.
