Dr. Hani Sweilem - Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, accompanied by Eng. Ayman Attia - Governor of Qalyubia, inspected the rehabilitation of the Mouth Bahr Mois Barrage, which is being implemented by the Arab Contractors Company, to follow up on the ongoing replacement work, directing that all standards and specifications followed be taken into account to ensure the quality of implementation. They were accompanied by officials from the Ministry, the Governorate, and the Military Engineers Department. They were welcomed by Eng. Mohamed Fouda -Executive Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company - Head of the Tunnels and Damietta Port Sector, Eng. Eman Farouk – Manager of the Tunnels and Slipforms Department, and Eng. Mohamed Bassiouny - Deputy Manager of the Department. Following the presentation of the project components, Eng. Mohamed Fouda indicated that the ongoing work includes the filling work on the right bank, sheet piles, dredging work, and diaphragm wall. During the visit, Dr. Sweilem directed preserving the archaeological character of the old barrage and involving the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the restoration process to preserve the archaeological style of the barrage that was built 150 years ago. The Minister also directed a study of the utilization of the dredging results at the site of the operation and research on their optimal investment. Dr. Sweilem stated that based on the database of water facilities previously prepared for 47 thousand water facilities to assessing the actual status of these facilities, the Ministry has begun activating a cooperation protocol with the Armed Forces Engineering Authority to implement the rehabilitation works of water facilities, which include, as a first phase the rehabilitation of water facilities, replacing and renewing the Moise Sea Mouth Barrage, (5) drains, (3) covering drainage, (6) manholes, (47) end-of-canal facilities, and (257) gates. The Ministry aims to develop and modernize the gates as one of the tools for developing the irrigation system 2.0 as a step to distribute water based on disposals instead of levels. It is worth noting that the project was approved due to the old construction of the Mouth of the Moise Sea Mouth Barrage since 1988 and the deterioration of its structural condition, and it is considered the main source of fresh water in the governorates of Sharqia, Ismailia and Port Said. Therefore, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation—Reservoirs and Major Bridges Sector took a decision to build new barrages and rehabilitate the old ones.
