Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with Dr. Doto Biteko - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Tanzania, to follow up on the progress of Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant, which is being implemented by the Egyptian JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric on Rufiji River in Tanzania. The meeting was attended by Mr. Sherif Ismail, Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar – Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction and Head of the Project Follow-up Committee, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Wael Hamdy – Senior Vice Chairman of Elsewedy Electric, and a number of officials from the two companies. The Minister of Housing and Deputy Prime Minister of Tanzania reviewed the progress of Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant, which is nearing completion. The main dam and the subsidiary dams have been completed, and turbines Nos. (6, 7, 8, 9) have been installed and operated. Electromechanical installations for the remaining turbines are currently being completed in preparation for the project’s completion. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny and Dr. Doto Biteko discussed the coordination regarding organizing a celebration of Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant on Rufiji River. The Tanzanian Deputy Prime Minister praised the efforts made by the Egyptian JV implementing the project, the interest of the political leadership of the Egyptian state, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the field visits of the Egyptian Minister of Housing to follow up on the progress of work on the ground, noting that this project is one of the fastest projects implemented in Africa and the highest in quality. The Minister of Housing stated that what has been achieved in the project is a great accomplishment in light of the various challenges and engineering complexities, stressing the interest of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Dr. Mostafa Madbouly - Prime Minister, in this huge project that fulfills the hopes of our Tanzanian brothers for development and his continuous directives to the JV officials to make the quality of implementation on the agenda of priorities. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny invited Dr. Doto Biteko – Tanzania Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, to participate in the activities of the World Urban Forum, which will be hosted by Cairo next November. It represents a great opportunity to enhance and deepen cooperation between the two countries and hold more bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum.
