The Minister of Housing inspects work progress on Amr Ibn Al Aas Free Axis

Eng. Sherif El Sherbini – Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, inspected the progress of Amr Ibn Al Aas Free Axis, and the fourth and final sector of Lieutenant General Kamal Amer Axis, which are being implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction, through Greater Cairo Reconstruction Authority.
He was accompanied by Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar – Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Dr. Abdel Khalek Ibrahim – Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs, officials from the Minister’s Technical Office and Greater Cairo Reconstruction Authority, the Project Consultant, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, which is the executing company, Eng. Heba Abu Al Ela – AC Board Member, Eng. Ayman Abdo – AC Executive Board Member, Eng. Sameh El Laqani – Manager of Bridges and Specialized Structures Department, Eng. Ahmed Samy – Deputy Manager of the Department, and Eng. Ahmed Morsi – Project Manager.
Eng. Sherif El Sherbini emphasized the importance of the two axes currently being implemented within the framework of an integrated plan to reduce loads on Marriotya axis, to achieve traffic flow within Giza, and to enhance the connection between Cairo and Giza Governorates. He gave directions for speedy completion of the work, expanding the installation of signs and warning boards, and preparing a guide for standard maintenance work on these axes, and handing it over to the operating entity.
Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar declared that Amr Ibn Al Aas axis is the second free traffic axis in Giza, and connects the southern arc of the Ring Road (at its intersection with Marriotya axis) and the northern arc of the Ring Road (in Manshyat Al Bakary), is parallel to Lieutenant General Kamal Amer axis, and is 4.5 km long with a width of 12 traffic lanes. The project includes the construction of an overpass with a width of 21.5m (3 traffic lanes in each direction) and is being implemented in 6 sectors, including the connection with the Southern Ring Road (entrance and exit) and the connection with Marriotya axis. Besides, the connection with Mansouriya and the tourist road towards El Mounib, in addition to an exit towards Al Haram Street, an entrance towards El Manshya Street, and an entrance to the axis from El Manshya, El Safa, and El Marwa Street in Faisal area. This will reduce the arrival time from El Mounib area to Manshyat El Bakary and the areas of El Tawabeq, Faisal, and Haram by 10 minutes.
The Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction added that the project includes increasing the efficiency of surface roads along the axis and side streets and expanding them in the areas of Haram, Faisal, and Al Sadat Axis. In addition to re-planning the areas that the axis passes through in a civilized manner to serve the residents, exploiting the spaces available under the bridges as parks and garages, and establishing the necessary services to improve the environment surrounding the areas to serve the residents and users of the axis in an area that represents the heart of Giza and suffers from traffic congestion, which causes citizens to suffer, increases the distance of trips, and increases exhaust emissions, which negatively affect those densely populated areas.
Major General Mahmoud Nassar pointed out that the fourth and final sector of Lieutenant General Kamal Amer Axis in Giza is currently being implemented, in the distance from El Warraq Ring Road to the connection with Tahya Masr Axis, with a length of 3 km, as Ahmed Orabi Axis has been connected to the Ring Road and Kamal Amer Axis, to be an alternative solves the increasing traffic congestion on 26th of July Axis from the Ring Road to Lebanon Square and Sphinx Square in Mohandseen. He declared that the Lieutenant General Kamal Amer Axis is a vital artery within Giza, and it is the transverse axis that passes through the governorate from its south to its north by connecting El Mounib Ring Road and El Warraq Ring Road, reaching the connection with Tahya Masr Axis.
The Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction stated that Lieutenant General Kamal Amer axis was divided into 4 sectors; 3 of them have been completed and operated. The first starts from the El Mounib Ring Road, passing through Terssa Bridge, Omranya Bridge, Al Haram Street and Faisal Bridge, reaching Saft El Labn, with a length of 5 km, serving all traffic directions above Saft El Labn Bridge. The second connects Saft El Labn to Gameat El Dewal Street, passing through Sudan Street and Bouak El Dakrour Metro Station, with a length of 2 km. The third starts from Gameat El Dewal Street to El Warrak Ring Road, with a distance of 5 km, passing through Sudan Street, 26th of July Axis and El Barageel Bridge.
