Dr. Assem El Gazzar - Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, congratulated the Tanzanian Deputy Prime Minister on generating electricity for the first time from the project’s units after completing the electromechanical installations of the first generating unit.
At the beginning of his visit to Tanzania, Dr. Assem El Gazzar - Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met with Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, to follow up on the work progress of Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and Dam, which is being implemented by the JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric on Rufiji River in Tanzania. This was in the presence of Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar – Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction and Head of the Project Follow-up Committee; Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company; Eng. Ahmed El Sewedy – CEO of Elsewedy Electric; and Eng. Hossam El Din El Rify – Senior Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company; Eng. Wael Hamdy – Senior Vice Chairman of Elsewedy Electric; and officials of the JV.
Dr. Assem El Gazzar congratulated the Tanzanian Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Energy, on generating electricity for the first time from the project’s units after the completion of the electromechanical installations of the first generating unit in the project and the success of its tests, which allowed for the first time to open the main water valve on turbine no. 9, where the water successfully took its path through the turbine stages until exiting into the river, and the turbine rotated with the hydropower for the first time and successfully reached the mechanical operating speed (150 rpm) and also achieved the power grid frequency (50 Hz).
The Tanzanian Minister of Housing and Deputy Prime Minister reviewed the work progress on Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant project, where the implementation rate reached about 96%, and the remaining percentage of work is mostly the completion of the installation of water turbines and their tests, as almost all other project components have been completed. It includes the main dam and subsidiary dams, the main bridge, an entire village for project workers, the internal road network, and other components.
Dr. Assem El Gazzar and Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko also discussed the efforts of the Egyptian JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric companies in implementing the project and transferring expertise and training Tanzanian engineers and technicians, as well as the JV’s initiatives to develop the related areas of the project within the framework of strong relations between the government and people of Egypt and Tanzania.
El Gazzar stressed the interest of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi - President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, in this huge project that fulfills the hopes of the Tanzanian brothers for development and his continued directives to JV officials that the quality of implementation is on the priority agenda.
