Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport followed up on the implementation rates of the West Nile Monorail Project (6th of October), which extends from New October Station to Wadi El Nile Station with a length of 43.8 km and includes 13 stations. The Minister inspected a number of project sectors and briefed on the project implementation rates in terms of its overall implementation rate, the implementation of construction works, beam installation in the track, the transfers, the construction work in the stations and the track, the finishing works, the equipment manufacturing, and tests that were carried out on them successively. He also reviewed the supply rate for the electromechanical equipment.
The Minister was accompanied during the tour by the leaders of the Ministry of Transport: Major Gen. Tarek Gowaili - Chairman of the. National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company executing the works, and Eng. Hossam El Din El Rifi - Senior Vice-Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Sayed Al-Wazir – AC Board Member, and Eng. Hisham Ali – AC Executive Board Member.
Then, the Minister inspected the work in the building of the control and monitoring center in the monorail workshop, which has an area of about 80 feddans (336,000 m2) and includes 13 buildings. The Minister was informed of the percentage of civil works being carried out in the center and the implemented work rate in its various buildings. The Minister of Transport also followed up on the rate of supply of mobile units, as 24 trains have arrived out of a total of 30 trains that will be supplied to the West Nile Monorail (6th of October) with a total number of 120 cars, where each train consists of 4 cars, and tests will be conducted on them at the control and monitoring center. The Minister emphasized the necessity of working around the clock and making every effort to complete the implementation of the sectors of the two projects according to the specified time schedule.
During his tour of the control and monitoring center of the West Nile Monorail, the Minister of Transport met with a delegation of students from the Faculty of Engineering at Mansoura University who are visiting the Monorail project in light of the ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Transport and the Egyptian universities. During their visit, the students listened to an explanation from the project manager about the characteristics and advantages of the monorail being implemented for the first time in Egypt. The students expressed their happiness at visiting the monorail project, which is one of the green, sustainable, and environmentally friendly mass transportation that will provide the highest levels of service to the passengers.
It is noteworthy that the total length of the two monorail projects (East / West Nile) is 100km with 35 stations, and the capacity of each of the two monorail lines is 600,000 passengers/day. The monorail consists of 4 cars, and it is planned to increase the number of cars to 8 cars with the increase in population density in the new urban areas it serves.
The Cairo East Monorail will contribute to linking the Greater Cairo region to the new urban areas and cities to the east (New Cairo, the Administrative Capital), as well as contributing to facilitating the movement of employees and expatriates from Cairo and Giza to New Cairo and the Administrative Capital, as it is integrated with the CML3 at the Stadium station in Nasr City and with the LRT at the City of Arts and Culture station in the New Administrative Capital. The West Nile Monorail will also serve the large urban expansions in 6th October City, such as the social housing project and development projects in South October and the southern expansions. It will integrate with CML3 at Wadi El Nile Station and with the first line of the High-Speed Rail (Ain Al Sokhna–Marsa Matrouh) at the Engineers Syndicate station on 6th of October
