Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel El Wazir - Minister of Transport inspected New Container Terminal (Tahya Misr 1) in Damietta Port within the framework of the Ministry of Transport’s implementation of the integrated logistics corridor (Tanta/Mansoura/Damietta), which consists of (the logistical zone in Tanta – Tanta/Mansoura/Damietta railway line - The dry port in New Damietta - Damietta Port, which is considered one of the most important components of this logistical corridor) and within the continuous follow-up of the projects being implemented to develop all Egyptian ports.
The terminal's capacity reaches 3.5 million TEU of container ships, with berth lengths of 1,970 m, a depth of 18 m, and a rear yard of 922,000 m2, to increase the capacity of Damietta Port within the framework of establishing Damietta Integrated Logistics Corridor project, which will transform Damietta Port into a global center for transit trade in the Mediterranean within the state's plan within the framework to turn Egypt into a global trade hub. The project is being implemented in partnership with the global operators (Eurogate, Contship, Hapag-Lloyd) as part of the ministry’s plan to attract the largest companies operating international shipping lines to invest in Egyptian ports and participate in operating the ports, and includes construction work for the berth and excavation of backyards, dry excavation and dredging works for the basin, supplying and installing marine supplies such as (mooring guns - fenders - mooring rings - marine ladders), supplying and installing crane bars, under the supervision of Damietta Port Authority and the implementation of the JV of the Arab Contractors Company and Archirodon.
The minister was accompanied by the ministry’s leaders, Rear Admiral Ahmed Hawash- Chairman of Damietta Port Authority, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO & Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Hossam El-Din Al-Rify - Senior Vice Chairman of the AC, Eng. Ayman Attia – AC Board Member, Eng. Mohamed Fouda - Member of the AC Executive Board, Eng. Mohamed Hassan - Manager of Project Management, and Eng. Mahmoud Diab – Construction Manager.
It is noteworthy that the scope of the work of the Arab Contractors Company includes the concrete works for the berth for the northern and eastern sides (704 m long for the northern side) and (279 m long for the eastern side), including foundation work with 362 span of diaphragm walls, 257 strip piles, 29,500 m.t. piles, 950,000 m3 yard excavation work, dry excavation works for the dock 416,430 m3, replacement works for the yards with an amount of 400,000 m3, and the supply work for marine supplies and crane bars has been completed.
After the tour, Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel El Wazir - Minister of Transport gave his directions to work around the clock to implement all work and adhere to the specified time schedule, pointed out that the Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Transport, is implementing a comprehensive plan to develop the maritime transport sector and all Egyptian seaports by taking advantage of the geographical location of the Egyptian ports, maximizing its competitive advantages in serving international trade, increasing its share of transit trade, and maximizing the benefit from the facilities available at ports.
