Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction inspects the restoration and re-employment of Al Sakakini Palace

Major General Mahmoud Nassar - Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, was in an inspection visit to the project of the restoration and re-employment of Habib Pasha Al Sakakini Palace at Al Daher in Cairo as part of the Egyptian government's efforts to restore historic buildings. This project is being implemented by the Arab Contractors Company, under the supervision of the Executive Authority for the Renewal of the Islamic and Fatimid Neighborhoods of Cairo. The visit involved a review of the palace's components and the work plan, which encompasses the restoration of all its elements. This was in the presence of Eng. Sonia Sharaf El Din - Head of the Projects Affairs Sector, Major General Medhat Abdel Rahman - Head of the Fatimid Cairo Authority, Eng. Tarek Khedr – Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Ali Abdel Samad – AC Executive Board Member, and Eng. Sally Medhat El Sayed - General Manager of Restoration Projects at the Fatimid Cairo Authority. Eng. Taha Diab - Manager of Palaces and Monuments Restoration Department, and Eng. Ahmed Osman - Deputy Manager of the Palaces and Monuments Restoration Department, stated that Al Sakakini Palace was built in 1897 AD and constructed by Habib Sakakini after he filled a pond called “Qaraja” in Al Daher. He built his palace in the style of one of the palaces in Italy. After his death in 1923, ownership of the palace was transferred to his heirs. After 1952 revolution, the heirs relinquished the palace to the Egyptian government, and it was used by the Ministry of Health from 1961 to 1983. The palace was also registered as an Islamic monument in 1987. Eng. Madiha Alaa El Din Tamraz - Project Manager on behalf of the authority, and Eng.Yasmine Nasr - Project Manager at Palaces and Monuments Restoration Department, indicated that the area of the palace is 2698 m² and was built in the Italian style and is considered a model of Rococo art, which is an art that belongs to decoration in architecture, interior and exterior decoration, as well as furniture, photography, and sculpture. The palace consists of 5 floors; the first floor consists of 4 rooms, and the second floor consists of 3 halls, 4 halls, and 2 rooms. The area of the main hall is 600 m² and contains 6 doors leading to the palace hall. The total number of rooms in the palace is 50 rooms, and it contains 400 windows and doors and 300 statues.
