Dr. Mohamed Ali Ould Sidi Mohamed – Minister of Equipment and Transports, and Eng. Sayed Al-Wazir, Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company, signed a memorandum of understanding to extend the agreement for Nouakchott Tramway Project. This was in the presence of Ambassador Khaled Youssef - Egyptian Ambassador to Mauritania; Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mahmoud Bayoumi, Eng. Darem Debsi – Head of Sector supervising the company’s projects in Mauritania; and Eng. Sayed El-Husseini - Financial Manager. The Mauritanian Minister of Equipment and Transport explained that the completion of the tramway project in the capital falls within the framework of the program of pledges of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazouani, which aims to enable citizens to move easily inside and outside the capital, that this project is considered one of the most common means of transportation in some countries, and that the signing comes in accordance with the memorandum signed between the two parties in July 2022.
For his part, Eng. Sayed Al-Wazir explained that the Arab Contractors Company presented a presentation on the preliminary studies prepared by the company, which included a proposal for “tramway” lines in Nouakchott (a 42-kilometer line in Nouakchott divided into two lines with an interchangeable section of 1,200 km) in addition to another proposal for financing methods.
On another level, the Egyptian delegation met with the Minister of Water and Sanitation in Mauritania, Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb, where a number of projects were discussed in the field of seawater desalination and wastewater treatment plants. The meeting witnessed interest on the part of the Mauritanian Minister in cooperating with the Arab Contractors Company due to its great experience in this field.
Mr. Abdel Salam Ould Mohamed Saleh, Mauritanian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, also received the Egyptian delegation to discuss opportunities for cooperation in projects available in Mauritania in order to spread development in the brotherly country.
