Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli followed up on progress in the implementation of the first phase of Metro Line 4, which falls within the framework of carrying out directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to expand the state's green, sustainable, and eco-friendly public transportation systems. The premier's tour of the Metro construction activities, alongside his accompanying delegation, followed an inspection visit of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) earlier in the day. Dr. Moustafa Madbouli inspected stations located in the environs of the GEM. The implementation rate at the museum station stands at 40.6 percent, while the progress rate at El Remaya station is estimated at 35.6%, according to Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli inspected the vicinity of the GEM, where 82% of the development work following the construction activities has been finalized in preparation for the anticipated official opening of the museum.
The Minister of Transport pointed out that Cairo Metro Line 4 extends for 42 kilometers and comprises 39 stations, out of which 37 are underground and 2 are sub-surface stations that are being carried out throughout two phases. The first phase is carried out by the Egyptian contracting companies (the Arab Contractors Company, Concord, Petrojet, and Hassan Allam Construction).
It extends for 19 km and includes 17 stations (16 underground, 1 surface) from the west of the Ring Road on the borders of 6th of October City, passing through the Grand Egyptian Museum station, then El Remaya Square, then El Haram Street to Giza Station, then extends after that to El Malek El Saleh Station. Then El Fustat Station in the Old Cairo area. The Minister added that 23.5% of civil works have been completed in the western part of it, and 4 tunnel boring machines "TBM" are currently being assembled and equipped, pointing out that two machines have been lowered from the descent well near Hadayek El Ashgar Station, and two machines are being prepared to descend from the El Ahram station. The concrete rings were manufactured for the tunnel in preparation for starting pipe jacking work. The Minister of Transport said that Cairo Metro Line 4 is the basis for linking the cities of 6 October and New Cairo to the metro network, as it provides a service to transport passengers to densely populated areas in the areas of El Haram, Faysal, El Omraniya, Giza, Nasr City, Al Azhar University, and New Cairo. The line is expected to transport about 2 million passengers per day after completing the implementation of its two phases. The first phase of it also achieves passenger exchange service with the first line of the metro at El Malek El Saleh Station and with the second line of the metro at Giza Station. The second phase also achieves service exchange with Line 6, which is under study, at Magra El Ayoun Station. The Minister of Transport also stated that, according to the directives of the political leadership, a study is underway to extend the line south for a distance of 4.5 km to serve the sectors of 6th of October City located south of Bahariya Oasis Road, and coordination is also underway with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to provide financing for studies of extending the line to the New Administrative Capital.
