After his visit to the investment area in Banha, Dr. Moustafa Madbouli – Prime Minister, Dr. Assem El Gazzar – Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Eng. Randa El-Menshawy, Vice Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Eng. Sayed Farouk – Senior Vice Chairman and Eng. Mohamed Rashed – Head of Greater Cairo Sector to follows up the work progress of Tahrir Square development works.
The Prime Minister listened to an explanation from Dr. Assem El Gazzar who declared that the development project is carried out by 3 teamworks and going on 24 hour basis; under the supervision of the ministries of housing, tourism, antiquities and culture, Cairo governorate and number of consulting offices. He stated that implementation rates reached 90%.
Eng. Sayed Farouk added that there is a settled plan for the development of Tahrir Square; the works is divided into 6 areas: (the center of the square, Omar Makram, the Museum, the Complex, the old Foreign Affairs Ministry and Tahrir Car Park) with a total area reached 45000m2. The huge flagpole which was at the center of the square was removed, the removal of all the greeneries, excavation works which reaches the level of El Saddat Metro Station in order to construct the base for the obelisk with length of 19m and weight 100 tons. the supreme council of Antiquities has restored and installed it.
The Senior Vice Chairman pointed out that the development works includes the construction of 4 bases for pharaonic statutes that will surround the obelisk to be I front of the comers from the main axes to Tahrir Square. In addition to the implementation a fountain, the paving works, lighting and landscaping. Besides, the works includes the implementation of 10 beams with 16m length and 2.3m -3.6m height, the construction of walkways for 21000ml with concrete slabs, the cultivation of palm trees on both sides, seating areas which consisting of concrete blocks and some marble seats. Besides, the installation of interlock for pavements, painting of the fences – lighting poles and traffic lights. Moreover, the installation of floor lighting system, olive tree beds, installation of lighting instruments to add an esthetic feature which is consistent with the pharaonic characteristics and development works of the square.
by the end of the tour, the Prime Minister praised the ongoing development works of Tahrir Square which is considered one of the most important and famous Egyptian squares. he emphasized on the necessity of being committed to the time schedule to assure the speedy implementation of the development work, which will be a civilized shift for the square. on the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized on the governmental concern with the implementation of various development projects in Cairo Governorate to revive and develop number of historical and archaeological areas; besides the restoring the image of old Cairo with its elegance and increasing the tourism movements.
