Dr. Assem El Gazzar – Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities inspects the development works of Tahrir Square in Cairo Governorate which is considered one of the famous squares in Egypt and the whole world and it is among the development of the historical Cairo. The Minister was accompanied during the tour with number of the officials of the ministry and the governorate, Eng. Mohammed Elwi – Manager of the Distinguished Buildings “the general contractor for the project from the Arab Contractors Company”, Eng. Mahmoud Rostom – Manager of Projects, Eng. Nader El Shefaay – Project Manager, representatives from the office of Eng. Ihab Mazhar – Project General Consultant, the office of Dr. Aly Abdel Rahman – the Construction Consultant. It is a noteworthy that the Arab Contractors Company is carrying out the development works of the square and its decoration with the obelisk of King Ramsis II; under the supervision of the ministries of housing, antiquities, culture and Cairo Governor. The obelisk is 19m length and on restoration stage. Besides, there are the paving works, lighting, landscaping. The works of the square is divided into 6 areas: the center of the square, Omar Makram, the Museum, the Complex, the old Foreign Affairs Ministry and Tahrir Car Park. The huge flagpole which was at the center of the square was removed, the removal of all the greeneries, excavation works which reaches the level of El Saddat Metro Station in order to construct the base for the obelisk “600 tons”. in addition to the implementation of 9 beams with 16m length and 2.30 height, the construction of walkways with concrete slabs and colored marble on both sides, the cultivation of palm trees, seating areas which consisting of concrete blocks and some marble seats implemented by the Ready Mixed Concrete Department. Besides, floor lighting system, olive tree beds, installation of lighting instruments to add an esthetic feature which is consistent with the pharaonic characteristics and development works of the square.
