Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab – the Prime Minister inaugurated the 1st
phase of the Expansion Works of Ain Shams Wastewater Plant (total capacity
300.000m3),
with a total value EGP 450 million. It is considered the mega wastewater plan
in the Middle East; it is serving about 1800000 persons in 5 districts in
Cairo: Heliopolis – Ain Shams – Al Amiriya – Al Marg – Al Matariya – part of
Nasr City.
Eng. Mahlab praised the work quality, thanked the Arab
Contractors for their exhorted efforts and honored some of the project
distinguished workers. He stated that AC execution of this complicated project
– for the bad condition of its location – is considered an excellent
prequalification for the company to execute any project in any country.
The project was terminated for 5 years, the works resumed
since a year; the expansions were accomplished 3 months earlier than its
scheduled date. the expansion process objectives include:
Increasing the plant capacity to 600000m3/day on 2 phases,
each phase with a capacity of 300000m3/day, gravity line 2500mm using pipe jacking its depth is
18m – 600 m length, drainage line 1500mm, 8.2km length including the manholes
and culverts to accommodate additional draining reach 300000m3/day – it was causing the drowning
of some districts in East Cairo which required the construction a manhole. This
manhole is the mega one in the Middle East.
In addition to a future plan during the 2nd phase
to construct new complexes adjoining this plant.
Helwan Branch executed the civil works for the 2 phases. The
Department of the Electromechanical Projects for Water, Wastewater and
Factories executed the electromechanical works with a capacity 300000m3/day for the first phase which includes
the followings: a manhole 48m, 28.5m depth, 2 operating wards 10m height. I
addition to the adjoining buildings for the followings: generators–
administrative– 2 buildings for the phase plates – workshop – fuel tank –
security room – wall surrounding the plant.
