President Adly Mansour inaugurated on Wednesday 7/5/2014 the 2nd phase of Cairo's 3rd metro line (Abbasiya-Heliopolis).
President Mansour was accompanied by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, the Ministers of: Transport – Defense and Military Production – Interior – Trade – Industry – Investment – Planning and International Cooperation - Local Development - Administrative Development - Information, Housing, Utilities And Urban Communities – Electricity and Renewable Power – Finance, Cairo Governor – Ambassadors of KSA, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Spain, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Head of the National Authority for Tunnels and Eng. Mohsen Salah – the Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company.
Presidential Spokesman Ehab Badawi said this project will serve 700,000 passengers/day and contribute to easing up traffic jams at the districts of Abbasiya and Heliopolis. Besides, it will provide a safe, fast, low cost mean of transportation.
The new line is one of the metro lines networks connecting different areas in Cairo and linking between the west and east cairo. It will will save EGP 2.7 billion for Egypt.
The project was undertaken by a consortium including Vinci (French), Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction. The consortium used a state of the art implementation methods to accomplish the project on a record time before 6 months its scheduled date. The new metro line contains four tunnel stations (Cairo’s exhibition, Stadium, Koleyet Al-Banat and Al-Ahram).
