The ministers of transport, water and irrigation, Alexanderia Governor and Eng. Ossama El Hosseiny, CEO of the AC inaugurated the Kilo100 New Lock on Nubaria Lake, with a total value EGP 321.5 million.
The new lock includes: front and back basin 120m length for each (which is the space between the two gates), 17m width, 3 electric gates, an automatic control building and a navigation canal 750m length, 35m depth. Besides, the modification of the infrastructure networks which opposed the general planning of the project, changing the track of Al Tahrir drainage to drain the wastewater of the agricultural areas, building an upper bridge 70 tons capacity, berthing area on the left coast of Nubaria Lake, protecting area 400ml and all the electromechanical works.
The new lock will contribute in accommodating the expected increase in the navigation between Cairo and Alexandria by using the river internal network to transport the containers to and from Dekhila port, assuring the continuity of the navigation to avoid the frequent breakdowns in the old lock gates. Moreover, it will contribute to reduce the average time of the passage of navigational units and helps in the possibility of the passage of river units in the case of low water levels.
