On the sidelines of his visit to Tanzania and the opening of the Egyptian-Tanzanian Joint Business Forum, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, met with Dr. Dotto Biteko - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Tanzania, in the presence of Eng. Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy - Chairman of Elsewedy Electric - Chairmen of the Egyptian JV implementing Julius Nyerere Dam, Eng. Heba Abu El Ela - AC Vice Chairman, and Eng. Wael Hamdy - Vice President of Elsewedy Electric.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the special nature of Egyptian-Tanzanian relations and the growing development they have witnessed, especially in recent years, since President Dr. Samia Hassan's visit to Egypt in November 2021, which witnessed significant events and the signing of several contractual frameworks. He stressed the keenness of the Egyptian leadership to complete Julius Nyerere Dam project, praising the Egyptian JV's ability to complete the mega-development project in an unprecedented record time and the approaching of the project's final delivery.
During the visit, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty inspected the renovation work at the Egyptian Embassy and Consular Section, which was carried out by the Arab Contractors Tanzania Ltd. Company, in the presence of Eng. Ahmed El Assar, and Eng. Heba Abu El Ella.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration also held a meeting with the heads of the two Egyptian JV companies implementing Julius Nyerere Dam project to follow up on construction progress and confirm the presidential directives to give top priority to the project, which is considered a model for cooperation among Nile Basin countries.
The Minister concluded his visit with an inspection tour of Julius Nyerere Dam project, which aims to meet Tanzania's electricity needs. He inspected the implementation status of the dam, which reached 99.9%; besides, 8 turbines out of a total of 9 turbines have been put into operation.
During the inspection tour, Minister Abdel Aaty emphasized that the project is a model for cooperation between Nile Basin partners, upstream countries, and downstream countries in hydropower dam projects, highlighting Egypt's commitment to supporting development in the Nile Basin.
