4 turbines have been successfully commissioned and are currently contributing to Tanzania’s national power grid. Electromechanical installations for the remaining turbines are ongoing. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, continued his inspection tour of Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant on Rufiji River in Tanzania, where he reviewed the status of the installation and operation of the project's turbines. He was accompanied by the Egyptian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Sherif Ismail, Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar – Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction and Head of the Project Follow-up Committee, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Wael Hamdy – Senior Vice Chairman of Elsewedy Electric, Eng. Mohamed Samaha – JV Manager, Eng. Darem Debsi – Project Coordinator, and a number of officials from the two companies. Officials of the Egyptian JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric companies, which is implementing the project, explained that turbines Nos. (6 - 7 - 8 - 9) have been installed and operated successfully and are now contributing to strengthening the national energy grid in Tanzania. Electromechanical installation work for the remaining turbines is currently being completed as preparation for the project completion. The Egyptian JV officials added that the work on the main dam and the subsidiary dams has been completed, which played a major role in sparing Tanzania human and material losses due to the unprecedented floods that occurred at the beginning of this year, in addition to the work on the intake and water tunnels leading to the turbine building, the permanent bridge, temporary and permanent roads, the electricity connection station, and the camp for the operation crew of the client and contractor.
