El Sherbiny: What has been implemented is a historic achievement in a project that faced many challenges and had many engineering complexities. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, arrived at the site of Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant, which is being implemented by the Egyptian JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric on Rufiji River in Tanzania. He was accompanied by the Egyptian Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Sherif Ismail, Major Gen. Mahmoud Nassar – Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction and Head of the Project Follow-up Committee, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Wael Hamdy – Senior Vice Chairman of Elsewedy Electric, Eng. Mohamed Samaha – JV Manager, and a number of officials from the Egyptian alliance implementing the project. Upon his arrival, Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny held a meeting with the JV officials and reviewed the implementation status of the project. The Minister listened to a detailed explanation from the project officials about the various implementation phases and the number of workers, which reached 12,000 workers approximately, 90% of whom are Tanzanians. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny stated that what was implemented is a historic achievement in a project that faced many challenges and had many engineering complexities. He thanked the Egyptian engineer, the administrator, and the worker who participated with their Tanzanian colleagues in achieving the dream of our sister country Tanzania with this project. The Minister pointed out that the Egyptian state pays great attention to the implementation of this huge project, and there are clear assignments from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi that this project has to be implemented at the highest level, to become a symbol of the distinguished relations between Egypt and Tanzania, and to prove the ability and potential of the Egyptian companies in implementing mega projects, especially for our brothers in the African continent. The Minister of Housing declared that the project is being completed, which includes the construction of a 1025-meter-long dam with a storage capacity of 32.8 billion m3. It also includes a hydropower plant with a capacity of 2115 MW. The plant is located on Rufiji River in Selous Game Reserve at Morogoro, south-west of Dar es Salam (the largest city and commercial capital of Tanzania).
