The Arab Contractors Company has successfully completed the excavation work of the first track between the Pyramids and Marriotya stations at Cairo Metro Line 4, within the company’s scope of work. The teamwork received the tunnel boring machine “TBM” after finalizing the excavation of the track that extends for 1 km approximately, under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and the National Authority for Tunnels.
This process involved complex preparations to receive the TBM , including assembling and installing of a metal cylinder 12.6 m long and diameter 7.30 m, then filling it with a mixture of sand and cement to ensure complete isolation of the TBM as it penetrated the concrete wall of the station.
The TBM is 100 m long, weight 685 tonnes and has a front shield with a diameter of 6.7 m.
The installation of all 697 concrete rings that form the tunnel body has been completed. The outer diameter of the tunnel is 6.4 m, and the inner diameter is 5.8 m. These concrete rings are manufactured at the Arab Contractors Company Concrete Rings Factory located on the project site .
