Lieutenant General Eng. Kamel El Wazir - Minister of Transport inspected New Container Terminal (Tahya Misr 1) in Damietta Port to follow up on the project implementation rates, accompanied by Rear Admiral Ahmed Hawash- Chairman of Damietta Port Authority.
This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Transport’s implementation of the integrated logistics corridor (Tanta/Mansoura/Damietta), which consists of (the logistical zone in Tanta – Tanta/Mansoura/Damietta railway line - The dry port in New Damietta - Damietta Port, which is considered one of the most important components of this logistical corridor).
The terminal's capacity reaches 3.5 million TEU of container ships, with berth lengths of 1,970 m, a depth of 18 m, and a rear yard of 922,000 m2, to increase the capacity of Damietta Port within the framework of establishing Damietta Integrated Logistics Corridor project, which will transform Damietta Port into a global center for transit trade in the Mediterranean within the state's plan within the framework to turn Egypt into a global trade hub. The project is being implemented in partnership with the global operators (Eurogate, Contship, Hapag-Lloyd) as part of the ministry’s plan to attract the largest companies operating international shipping lines to invest in Egyptian ports and participate in operating the ports, and includes construction work for the berth and excavation of backyards, dry excavation and dredging works for the basin, supplying and installing marine supplies such as (mooring guns - fenders - mooring rings - marine ladders), supplying and installing crane bars, under the supervision of Damietta Port Authority and the implementation of the JV of the Arab Contractors Company and Archirodon.
This was in the presence of Eng. Ayman Attia – AC Board Member, Eng. Mohamed Fouda - Member of the AC Executive Board and Eng. Mohamed Hassan - Manager of Project Management for the Company’s scope of work.
It is noteworthy that the scope of the work of the Arab Contractors Company includes the concrete works for the sidewalk for the northern and eastern sides (704 m long for the northern side) and (279 m long for the eastern side), including foundation work with 362 piles of panel walls, 257 strip piles, a quantity of 29,500 m.t. piles, and yard excavation work. With an amount of 950,000 m3, dry excavation works for the basin with an amount of 416,430 m3, and replacement works for the yards with an amount of 400,000 m3.
