Prime Minister witnesses the arrival of TBM at Al Kitkat Station of CML 3 – Phase 3

Dr. Moustafa Madbouli - Prime Minister and Eng. Kamel El Wazir –Minister of Transport witnessed the arrival of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) at Al Kitkat Station which is the last one in the first part of Cairo Metro Line 3 – Phase 3, after the completion of the drilling works between the two stations of Zamalek and Kitkat along 929m. Thus, the tunneling works for phase 3A, which is 4km length is completed. This was in the presence of the ministers of electricity, renewable energy, finance and housing; Giza Governor, Head of the transportation Committee in the Parliament, Head of National Authority for Tunnels, the French Ambassador in Cairo, the Ambassador of the European Union, Eng. Ahmed El Assar – Senior Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company and Eng. Eman Soliman –Board Member of the AC.
Dr. Moustafa Madbouli stated that the state is accelerating towards a renaissance in all sectors especially the transport sector which President Abdel Fattah El Sisi pays particular attention for its direct impact on our daily life and the vital role in reducing congestion and pollution. He pointed out that the metro is considered one of the clean means of transportation which is carrying out according to the latest technological systems. It improves the quality of service provided to the citizens; currently there are many mass transit projects under construction which links between the Egyptian governorates and serve the development objectives and contributes in facilitating the citizens’ movement.
Dr. Moustafa Madbouli pointed out that he is feeling proud to be in this place accompanied by the ministers to witness this important event of the TBM arrival at Kitkat as preparation to continue the other phases of line 3. He thanked the Transport Minister and all the workers in the ministry for the work volume and the great effort to implement this integrated network for mass transit which include the metro, monorail, LRT and HST. He stated that Egypt is building a new history of infrastructure and mass transit all over the Republic. Noting that there is a huge amount of work, accompanied by many major technical challenges, where it takes place in residential areas, which makes us anxious to work according to the highest safety measures to accomplish these projects as soon as possible to enter the service.
Eng. Kamel El Wazir –Minister of Transport stated that Cairo Metro Line – Phase 3 is 17.7km and includes 15 stations. Work in the line has reached 49%. The 1st part of the stations from Attaba to Kitkat with a length of 4 km will be inaugurated in December 2021. The 2nd part of the station from Kitkat to Rod El Farag Axis with a length of 6.6km, set for completion in June 2022. The third part will be from Kitkat to Cairo University with a length of 7.1km will be inaugurated in April 2023. The third phase costs L.E. 40.7 billion, while the entire Line 3 costs L.E. 97 billion. Kitkat station’s area is 3,800m2 at a depth of 23m underground and has 3 levels. The importance of this station that it links Cornich El-Nil and El Sudan streets through Kitkat Square, after which the route will split north to the Rod Al Farag Axis and south to Cairo University station.
The Minister declared that CML3 will connect Greater Cairo with 6 October City, the New Administrative Capital, and new cities of El Shorouk, El Obour, and El Mostaqbal. It is considered the link between CML1 which is considered the first metro line in Egypt and Middle East, that it will exchange service in Nasser station, CML2 in Attaba and Cairo University stations and LRT in the interchange station of Adly Mansour. Besides, it will connect the New Administrative Capital monorail at El-Estad station in Nasr City and the 6 October monorail at the Wadi El Nil station.
He stated that the government is moving ahead with its plans to expand Egypt's transportation network despite the harsh global conditions imposed by the coronavirus.
