Dr. Moustafa Madbouli –Prime Minister inspected the renovation works of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) buildings and efforts to develop the institute’s services as part of its restoration plan which started shortly after the explosion that hit it in August 2019.
He was accompanied by Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar - Higher Education & Scientific Research, Major General Khaled Abdel Aal - Cairo Governor, Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht - President of Cairo University, Dr. Hatem Abul Qassem - Dean of the National Cancer Institute, Eng. Sayed Farook – President & CEO of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Emam Afify - Vice Chairman of the AC, Eng. Tarek Khader - Head of Construction and Specialized Works Sector and Eng. Taha Diab – Manager of Palaces and Monuments Restoration Department.
The Prime Minister emphasized on the great concern with this educational and remedial edifice. He pointed out the importance of swiftly finalizing all works at the highest quality level.
The Higher Education Minister briefed Prime Minister on the renovation and development works of the main building which started after the accident at a cost of 100 million EGP. The repairing works include the interior damages of the medical building, interior and exterior facades for 7 floors, and the storeys and lectures hall. Besides, the repairing and renovation works for the emergency area, the main entrance, construction of construction of a lounge for the patients and their families, 2 floors for the clinics for early detection and pain treatment and a lounge for doctors. In addition to the modernization of the administrative buildings, the comprehensive development of the electromechanical works including electricity, air conditions, gas and firefighting systems.
The Prime Minister’s tour includes the inspection of the front interface, the emergency area, the clinics for early detection and pain treatment.
It is a noteworthy that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) including its hospital 270 beds was built in 1969. It was serving in first year of operation about 5,700 new cases and 8,000 outpatient visits. Currently, the number of outpatients’ visits reached more than 300.000 in the main building and more than 95.000 in the clinics of the breast cancer hospital in Al Tagmoaa Al Awl.
