Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir – the Minister of Transport was in inspection tour to follow up the implementation rates of both Cairo Metro Line 3 – Phase 4 which is carried out by JV of the Arab Contractors Company and Orascom Construction and the Light Rail Transit “LRT” (El Salam/New Administrative Capital/10th of Ramadan) which the AC is participating in its implementation as well.
This was in the presence of Major Gen. Essam Wali – the Head of the National Authority for Tunnels, Eng. Mohsen Salah – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, the Board Members - Eng. Eman Soliman and Eng. Ahmed El Assar, Eng. Osama Moustafa – JV Manager, Eng. Ahmed Shawki –Commercial Manager of the JV, Eng. Abdel Hay Badawy – Project Manager from the Bridges Department of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Ali Abdel
Samd – Manager of the Civil Works Department and Eng. Tarek Marzouk – Manager of Sanitation and Finishing.
The tour started with the inspection of El Nozha Station of Cairo Metro Line 3 – Phase 4. Then the Minister was riding a test locomotive on the track from El Nozha Station to inspect the other stations of Phase 4 (Hisham Barakat –Omar ibn El Khatab – Qebaa – Haykesteb – Adly Mansour interchange station which is considered a model for Multimodal Transport). He reviewed the implementation rate of every station and directed that the work should be around the clock to complete the 6 stations and finalizing the tests of the operating and control systems to open the stations for the passengers on 25th April 2020; in conjunction with the laying of the foundation stone of the Light Rail Transit “LRT” (El Salam/New Administrative Capital/10th of Ramadan).
Then the Minister toured the Light Rail Transit “LRT” which the political leadership directed its completion within 24 months. The Minister inspected the stations and the bridge of the project. Then he reviewed the implementation rates, the civil works reached 13% of the target, about 12% of the bridges works were completed, 14% of the tunneling works, 12% of the railways crossovers and 7% of the construction works for the maintenance workshop for the LRT.
The Minister emphasized that this project will contribute into linking the cities of Greater Cairo with the new urban communities and the New Administrative Capital; it will serve the investors and the industrial zones in these new communities.
Besides, it contributes to the growth and development of new urban communities residential, commercial and industrial aspects. he added that the Metro projects and the LRT have a great importance in maximizing the mass transit system.
It is a noteworthy that the track of the LRT is 70km length, it includes the construction of 12 stations along the track way. The project scope of works includes the implementation of 6 bridges, 2 tunnels, 4 bridges for cars in Hykstep, entrance of Al Mostakbal and El Sherouk cities. Cairo Metro Line 3-Phase 4 and the LRT projects is carried out by Egyptian companies which implemented the stations, bridges and the workshops. The movable units for the 2 projects will be imported from abroad.
