Dr. Moustafa Madbouli - the Prime Minister and Eng. Kamel El Wazir – the Minister of Transport witnesses the arrival ceremony of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) to Maspero Station of Cairo Metro Line 3 – Phase 3 and its readiness to cross the River Nile ahead to El Zamalek. This was in the presence of the ministers of: housing, utilities and urban communities – finance – planning – investment and international cooperation; Cairo Governor, French Ambassador, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels, Eng. Mohsen Salah – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company and Eng. Eman Soliman – the Board Member of the AC, number of the JV representatives from the French companies, the Arab Contractors Company and Orascom Construction.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the government efforts to develop all the utilities of the transportation sector is to achieve the defined goal of connecting all the sides throughout the republic. Consequently, it will serve the development objectives and contributes to the facilitation to the citizens. He pointed out that the utility of the metro is an important vital life-line which transports millions of citizens daily; there are assignments from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to continue all the Cairo Metro phases and promote its provided services.
Eng. Kamel El Wazir stated that the 3rd line of the metro represents the link between the 1st line- the oldest line of Cairo metro-which exchange service with this line in Nasser Station, and the 2nd line which exchange service with this line in El Attaba and Cairo University stations. In addition to these, it exchange with the monorail of the New Administrative Capital in the Stadium station and exchange with 6 October Monorail in Boulak El Dakrour. Besides, it is connecting with the LRT (El Salam/ New Administrative /Capital) in Adly Mansour Station.
The Minister pointed out that the directions of the political leadership concerning Cairo Metro is based upon the continuation of the development and implementation works of the metro according to the highest standards and criteria due to the importance of metro projects as one of the main important solutions to facilitate traffic which ease the movement and transportation of the citizens. He emphasized that Maspero station is among the underground stations of Cairo Metro Line 3 – Phase 3. Its total area is 3600m2 with 28m depth from the ground level. The station includes 3 floors. The design of the station has putting into consideration the use of the whole location by building a mall and an administrative building above the station to be a financial source to increase the returns from the 3rd line. the priority to the relocation of the shop owners whose properties were expropriated to implement this station, as a belief of the state that the occupants of any region will not be exposed to any material or moral damage from the implementation of any national project carried out by the state.
The Transport Minister declared that the works of CML 3 – Phase 3 is ongoing; the implementation rate reached 23.4% which extends from Al Attaba to Kit Kat stations, then it branched to the North Direction to the final station on Rod El Farag Axis; then to the South towards Cairo University with a length of 17.7km. It includes 15 stations; it is divided into 3 parts. The 1st part with a total length 4km from Attaba to Kit Kat; it comprises 4 underground stations: "Gamal Abdel Nasser – Maspero – Zamalek – Kit Kat"; it will be inaugurated on December 2021. The 2nd part with a total length 6.6km from Kit Kat to the interchange station on Rod El Farag Axis; it includes 6 stations: [underground station "Sudan" – 4 elevated stations (Imbaba – El Bohy – El Kawmiya El Arabia – the Ring Road) and at-grade station (the interchange station on Rod El Farag Axis)]"; it will be inaugurated on June 2022. The 3rd part with a total length 7.1km from Kit Kat to Cairo University; it comprises 5 stations: [3 underground stations (El Tawfikiya – Wadi El Nile – Gamaat El Dowal) – an elevated station (Cairo University) and at-grade station (Boulake El Dakrour)]"; it will be inaugurated on April 2023.
the Minister of Transport added that the total cost of the 3rd line of the metro is 97 billion EGP. he pointed out that this year witnesses many achievements of the Transportation Ministry in the underground metro field. The stations of CML3 – Phase 4 (Haroun – Al Maskn – Nadi El Shams “El Shams Club”) were inaugurated last June; on October 2019 was the inauguration of Heliopolis station which is considered one the biggest underground stations in the Middle East. Besides; El Nozha and Hisham Barakat stations of CML 3 – Phase 4B are planned to be inaugurated before the end of this year. The remaining works of this phase is ongoing to be inaugurated on April 2020.
