Dr. Hisham Arafat – Minister of Transport and Major General Kamel El Wazeer – Head of the Engineering Authority for the Armed Forces toured Rod El Farg Axis which is considered one of the mega projects of the National Network for Roads to transfer the traffic from East Cairo to Alex Desert Road, Matrouh and El Alameen without crossing Cairo Governorate.
It is noteworthy that the 2nd phase of Rod el Farg Axis is 12km length on both sides, including 6 sectors; one of them is the Nile Western Bridge: 400m length over the River Nile, 14m height, 55m width, it consists of two ways and 5 lanes on both sides. Whereas the Nile Easter Bridge is 540m, it consists of two main pillars, about 100 meters from the surface of the water for the installation of huge cables weighing up to a thousand tons approximately to bear the body of the bridge. It is connecting between Gezert El Warraq and Shoubra District. It is considered the widest Cable Stayed Bridge worldwide, its width from the center is 64m, and its width in Shoubra is 84m with a total capacity 12tons. Thus, there are 4000 engineers, technicians and workers participating in this huge project working for 24hours; in addition to huge number of equipment: 19 cranes with varied capacity reached 300 tons, 15 loaders, 18 pilling machines and 2 ferryboats were specially manufactured for the sake of the project in the Arab Contractors Workshops in El Maasara with a total cost 46million EGP in addition to ferryboats, motor launch and other maritime halls.
