By Mohamed Abdulzaher Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) is building three new airports in Jazan, Abha and Al Qasim to add capacity to handle 7.3 million more passengers each year, a senior official said.
The new airports are part of an overall investment of USD 10.66 billion in the aviation infrastructure sector, the official told Zawya in a phone interview on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to media.
The number of passengers handled by Saudi Arabian airports reached 54.46 million in 2011, an increase of 13.5% over 2010's 47.95 million, and 25.3 % over 2008's 42.31 million, documents sent to Zawya show.
